Boston by the Numbers: New Data Highlights Neighborhood Trends

A recent analysis by The Boston Globe (March 3, 2026) explores how Boston’s neighborhoods differ in wealth, population, and key demographic trends—offering a deeper look at the city’s evolving landscape.

Often described as a “city of neighborhoods,” Boston continues to reflect distinct identities shaped not only by history and culture, but also by significant differences in income, race, housing, and opportunity.

The data, drawn from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2020–2024 American Community Survey, provides one of the clearest snapshots of the city today. By mapping this information at the neighborhood level, the report highlights how factors like population growth, wealth distribution, age, and immigration patterns vary widely across Boston.

Together, these insights paint a clearer picture of both the diversity and disparities that continue to shape life across the city.
