Black History Month Allston-Brighton Honoree

This year, in honor of Black History Month, the Boston City Council hosted a Builders of Boston celebration, led by Councilor Rev. John Culpepper, recognizing the legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Each City Council office had the opportunity to honor a local Black entrepreneur or institution builder who has made a lasting impact in their community. Councilor Liz Breadon’s office proudly honored Joseph Charles, a beloved fixture in Allston-Brighton and owner of Rock City Pizza.

Joseph has long been a strong advocate for the local small business community, serving on the boards of Allston Village Main Streets and the Allston-Brighton Chamber of Commerce. Rock City Pizza is a staple at the annual Taste of Allston food festival and proudly sponsors the yearly “Clean Yo Block” cleanup of the main streets districts in Allston.

Joseph and Rock City Pizza have also generously supported youth sports in the neighborhood, including the Brighton High School basketball team and Allston-Brighton Little League.

Thank you to Joseph Charles for his hard work, vision, and continued commitment to the Allston-Brighton community—and congratulations to all the builders and entrepreneurs who were honored for the incredible work they do every day.
