Allston-Brighton schools are facing staffing and budget cuts under the newly approved $1.7 billion Boston Public Schools budget. On average, local schools will see about a 3% drop in funding and a 6.5% reduction in staff—higher than the district-wide average.

Some schools, including Lyon K-8, Edison Elementary, and Brighton High, are expected to be hit the hardest, with significant reductions in teachers and support staff. These cuts come despite projected enrollment increases at most schools, raising concerns about classroom support and resources.

District leaders say rising costs—like transportation, special education, and healthcare—along with shifting enrollment trends are driving the changes, though educators worry the impact will fall most heavily on students who need the most support.
