Cambridge Street Bridge Preservation

MassDOT has removed the barriers at the base of the Franklin Street footbridge, allowing cyclists to travel southbound on Cambridge Street. In a statement to Allstonia on Tuesday, Emily Jacobsen, who opposed the bike lane’s closure, welcomed the change but expressed concerns about safety.

“As much as I am grateful that cyclists can now avoid using the sidewalk, MassDOT really missed an opportunity to extend the barriers down to the Harvard Street intersection and provide a truly safe experience for riders along that stretch of road,” Jacobsen said.
