Established in 1998, Brighton Main Streets is part of a citywide movement inspired by Main Street America’s UrbanMain Program. Since its founding, the organization has worked to cultivate a vibrant, welcoming, and pedestrian-friendly commercial district that reflects the heart of the Brighton community.
Centered along Washington Street, the district is anchored by two lively neighborhood hubs—Brighton Center and Oak Square—and is home to 150+ small businesses and independent restaurants, along with key community resources like a YMCA, two libraries, a police station, a district courthouse, and major institutions such as Boston Medical Center and Franciscan Children’s.
Brighton offers a unique blend of small-town charm and big-city convenience, attracting families, young professionals, and students alike. With its tree-lined streets, historic homes, and classic triple-deckers, this northwest Boston neighborhood is both rich in character and full of energy.
Our Mission
Brighton Main Streets is dedicated to strengthening the neighborhood’s commercial district and enhancing the overall quality of life for those who live, work, and visit here. We focus on beautifying our streets, supporting and diversifying local businesses, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and promoting Brighton as a destination within Boston—all while encouraging residents to shop local and invest in their community.
