Being the Executive Director of BMS has its perks and today was a day maker! Thanks to an early email from our neighbor Nancy O’Hara we were invited to Open Mic at the Veronica B Senior Center this afternoon! Loved the songs, comedy and a story of memories from the Black Out in 1965! Veronica B and the seniors are a gem in our community and we have loved every occasion and opportunity either them! #brightonma #brightonmainstreets #veronicabsmith #openmic #seniors

We want to wish all of our community Veterans a very Happy Veterans Day! We were honored to partner and participate in some amazing events this week that highlight Allston and Brighton’s commitment to honoring and remembering all who have served our country!

🇺🇸 The Veterans Count at the Honan Library celebrated the 3rd installment of a tribute to all of those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice and are remembered on the Hero Squares though out AB. We want to thank our partners in this project @brightonmarine and The Friends of the Honan Library for letting us help research our heroes and connect with their loved ones when possible. Some of the slides are shared and we had the special privilege of having four nieces of Father Phil Carrigan there to tell his story. We were also able to talk to a cousin of Pvt. George Spinney who was killed in France during WWI. Thanks to @ancestry we were able to get a pic of the young George Spinney with his siblings. George lived at 5 Faneuil Terrace and he is buried at Evergreen Cemetery. To celebrate the 250th Anniversary of Massachusetts @massachusetts250 we highlighted Thomas Gardner of Allston who died in the Battle of Bunker Hill. It is said that President George Washington attended his funeral! These are just a few of the many we have honored the past three years and will continue the tradition for years to come!
🇺🇸 We want to thank @saintcols for inviting us to their annual Veterans Day Appreciation Ceremony. Each year the entire student body, staff alumni and friends honor an Alumni Veteran. This year’s honoree was Tom Tully, class of 1960 and a graduate of @bostoncollege 1964. Tom served in Korea and we are grateful for his service.

Recapping an amazing Halloween season and we want to thank all of our neighbors and community partners that helped make it another great year!
As the pictures reflect we did a lot of pumpkin painting, thank you Johnny D for getting us 160 pumpkins, and handed out over 2000 pieces of candy!
Thank you to @brighton.farmers and @sparkalifewithart for an awesome@season! We are proud to support the market each year and to also be able to bring art programs to the common!
Thank you to @allstonbrightoncdc and their Brighton Future Foward program, our neighbors at the Faneuil Tenant Organization and @winncompanies, and the community officers of the @bostonpolice for an amazing afternoon of pumpkin painting, hot dogs, popcorn, Halloween bingo and a movie with the kids!
Thank you to @brightonmarine for letting us be part of the Trunk or Treat at the Residences on the Brighton Marine Campus that provides housing and wrap around services for Veterans and their families!
Finally a huge thank you to the Brighton Main Streets Board of Directors, our small business community and partners for taking part in our annual business district trick or treat! A specials thanks to @ymca_oaksquare @harvard @bostonpolice @road_to_the_right_track @dominos @allstonbrightoncoc for supporting the Trick or Treat and the wildly successful pizza party!

We took a ride over to Allston to visit @vivantvintage at their 318 Lincoln Street location! You can also find them at their 332 Newbury Street Boston, Ma…very cool vintage shop and picked up some old cutoff shorts!
